✔ American-Made

✔ Designed by Master Maine Guides

✔ Built for Decades — Not Seasons

Purpose-built for hunters who stay mobile and hunt all day.

Designed and used by Maine guides in true big woods country, the Blazer is built to carry what matters without slowing you down. Made in the USA from quiet, durable blaze orange wool, this hunting fanny pack reduces bulk, moves cleanly through thick timber, and keeps essential gear close and accessible all day long. The integrated shoulder strap system distributes weight comfortably off your hips, making it ideal for long days on foot when food, water, navigation tools, and layers matter.

Field tested season after season in harsh conditions, this pack is designed to disappear once the hunt begins. No excess straps, no unnecessary compartments, no distractions. Just a proven layout that keeps you organized, balanced, visible, and focused from first light to last.

A Word from Maine Master Guide Hal Blood:

About 40 years ago, when hunting fanny packs were first getting popular, I purchased one from Cabela's. Over the years it saw a lot of use and the pack began to wear and come apart. I kept trying to find a replacement, but could never find one that was quiet enough. All the new materials were either too stiff or too noisy to make a good woods pack. All the newer packs seemed to have too many buckles, straps and pockets for everything including water bottles.

These packs are fine for the stand hunter but for tracking and still hunting, a pack needs to be quiet and not have all the accessories that catch on twigs and brush. Guiding hundreds and hundreds of hunters from all walks of life over the last 30 + years has provided me an opportunity to field test the la/test and greatest gadgets and equipment the outdoor industry has offered. I’ve probably seen about every hunting fanny pack ever made. There are a few wool packs available but none are water resistant and after a day in the rain or wet snow, everything inside is wet. That’s when Chris and I decided it was time to make our own Big Woods Bucks model.

I came up with a design that was simple and functional. I had one made and used it for a season to make sure that I would be happy with it before going into production. After making a few minor adjustments and getting the seal of approval from the BWB Team, we started the process. Our main criteria for building this pack was that it would be the best tracking pack available.

The main compartment of the pack is large enough to carry a load if needed, but the design allows the pack to mold flat against your back if the load is small. It has a divider with an elastic top that I use to keep my lunch against my back to keep it from freezing. The front pocket is to keep all small loose items together, and easy to get at and is the perfect size to fit a folded topo map. The belt is large enough it doesn’t cut into your waist and is sewn deep into the pack for strength. The buckle is adjustable to keep it in the middle of your waist. The small pocket on top of the main compartment can be used to carry your GPS or radio and has velcro flaps for easy access without taking the pack off. The whole pack is lined with a  liner to keep everything dry. This liner does make the pack seem a little noisy, but with gear inside it is not a problem.

I hope you enjoy it and get a lifetime of use out of it.

Good luck on the trail!

- Hal

Why big woods wool?

Old School Wool. Modern Results.

Wool is the original performance fabric and still the best for real deer hunting. It stays warm when wet, naturally resists human odor, and is far quieter than synthetic gear in thick brush. Wool won’t burn, air dries quickly, and keeps working in snow, rain, and cold when modern materials turn clammy and loud.

After 30+ years guiding hunters in the Maine big woods, Hal Blood saw expensive synthetics fail in the conditions that matter most. In 2009, Hal and the BWB team committed to build the finest 100% virgin wool hunting gear possible, no gimmicks, no fashion camo, just gear made for hunters who need the real deal.

Built in the tradition of the old timers, proven by today’s Big Woods hunters.

Wool Gear

Real Answers for Real Deer Hunters

Yes, especially in the conditions most deer hunters face. Wool stays warm even when wet, breathes when you hike, and doesn’t get clammy like polyester. Synthetics can feel warm in the truck but once you sweat and then sit, they turn cold. Wool regulates your body temperature naturally so you stay comfortable from the walk in to the last minute of legal light.

This is where wool shines.

Even when wet, wool continues to insulate. Synthetics and cotton lose most of their warmth once soaked. With wool, you’ll still have all day protection instead of instantly getting chilled.

Yes. Wool fibers naturally resist bacteria that cause human scent. It won’t replace playing the wind, but wool doesn’t hold stink like polyester. You can wear it multiple days without that sour synthetic smell building up which is a huge advantage during long weeks at camp

Wool is naturally tough and abrasion resistant. It doesn’t melt from sparks, snag like ultralight synthetics, or get shiny with wear. Many customers are still hunting in pieces they bought decades ago.

Most high-end camo is designed for marketing, not long days in real weather. Wool doesn’t rely on coatings or membranes that wear out. It works because of the fiber itself. No plastic feel, no clammy sweat chill, no synthetic stink after one hunt. If your current gear leaves you cold after the walk in, wool will feel like a cheat code.
