Featured Buck of the Month

Featured buck of the month was created not only to congratulate hunters on their accomplishment but to be able to share experiences they have encountered leading up to their kill. Our belief is that a hunter never stops learning about whitetails and the pursuit of mastering the "art of hunting" is a life long quest. By sharing your experiences, it just might help a fellow hunter get the edge on that square toed buck they are chasing. It might afford them the chance they have been waiting for and beat him on his own turf at his own game. Criteria for selecting the buck of the month is not based solely on the size of the buck but the experiences and lessons the hunter had leading up to their kill.

Bobby Graves

This 10 pointer in velvet was killed by Bobby Graves of Harpswell, ME. Bobby took this buck on Sept. 9 during the expanded archery season. It dressed at 145 lbs. and scored 127 7/8. Bobby is no stranger to success killing numerous big bucks while hunting with Hal at Cedar Ridge. I like how Bobby titled his story as "Two Points Connecting." If you have been around Hal much or attended his seminar or read some of his writing, you have surely heard him talk about two points connecting. Read Bobby's story carefully because he uses some keen tactics and deals with the composure or "Buck Fever" issue most of us have encountered in our hunting careers. You will see a chapter in our next DVD called Mind Body Separation. After years of guiding and seeing too many people unravel and not kill a buck as a result, Hal felt it was something we should address and suggest ways to deal with it. It could help you make a difference between celebrating after killing the buck of your life or disaster as well as sleepless nights of what could have been. Getting a chance at a big buck is hard earned and they don't happen everyday so mental preparation plays a key role in your success. It also limits any potential for wounded game scenarios. BWB congratulates Bobby on a beautiful buck and a bonus of the buck being in full velvet. Good luck this fall.
